Although the nature of work has changed enormously throughout the centuries, the fundamental structure of our brain is pretty much the same as it has always been. This also applies to the brain’s main focus, namely survival. In order to ensure survival, the brain endeavours first of all to avoid danger and, secondly, to seek benefits. In the effort to avert potential threats, the brain works on the basis of predictability; this, in turn, relies on accumulated information from previous experiences.
